What Is NIR/SWIR Technology?
Near Infrared/Shortwave Infrared technology,
deemed NIR/SWIR, extends Sensors
Unlimited's standard InGaAs wavelength
response down to 0.7 µm while
still maintaining a 1.7 µm cutoff.
Sensors Unlimted's standard InGaAs
detector response runs from 0.9
µm to 1.7 µm. This extension
allows for the sensor to detect
standard military lasers currently
used on the battlefield, while
offering higher night vision
sensitivity. Its original intent
was to provide backwards compatibility
to all military customers currently
using intensified tube technology (i.e. I2CCD) or night vision
goggle technology. NIR/SWIR still
holds all the positives of standard
operating InGaAs. For example,
it can still image through haze
and other obscurants; NIR/SWIR
cameras can still detect eyesafe
lasers. Simply put, it combines
the best of InGaAs shortwave
infrared imaging while covering
the spectral range of night vision
goggles. This provides the warfighter
with the ideal set of capabilities
at his or her fingertips. Ideal
for integration into night vision
and laser detection systems on
unmanned aerial or ground vehicles,
rifle scopes, precision guided munitions, and hostile fire indicators,
NIR/SWIR is offered in our small, lightweight, high sensitivity KT
camera platform. Potential industrial applications include machine
vision to detect moisture, manufacturing imperfections, integrity
of seals or joints, and other characteristics that affect product
quality.
